Talking Technophobia in Film

A Film Class Discussion

“It’s alive! It’s alive!” From the very beginning, Hollywood has offered a frightening reflection of our deep fear of technology, its effects, and sinister implications. Experiments gone wrong, new monstrous life, innocent victims, and mad scientists all give us a sense of just how terrified Hollywood writers, directors, and producers think we are (or should be).

In this class we will investigate popular, pivotal movies and discuss their fears, warnings, and possible solutions to this ever-increasing cultural technophobia. Discussion topics will include: “the mad scientist and you,” “ghosts in the machines,” “malfunctioning machinations,” “risks and rewards,” and “the power of human ingenuity.”

In Season 3 of this class we will investigate popular, pivotal movies and discuss their fears, warnings, and possible solutions to this ever-increasing cultural technophobia. Our central Theme for the year is: “Monsters & Madmen.“

Talking Technophobia in Film is a film discussion class. It’s like a book club, but for film nerds who like talking about society in relation to movie plots. It’s led by Film Buff/YouTube Addict/(Actual Teacher) @ProfessorMovies.

So if you are a Film/Pop-culture Buff and like talking about movies, then you should join the class! It’s streamed live on Facebook, so international film nerds can join in too!
